Cleveland鈥檚 Historic West Side Market Unveils Design
(CLEVELAND, April 28, 2025) 鈥 51福利 alongside Cleveland Public Market Corporation and fellow Transformation Project partners Robert P. Madison International, Independence Construction, and the AKA Team unveiled the vision for West Side Market鈥檚 future. Serving as the city鈥檚 oldest and largest continuously operating public market, the new design shares a glimpse of what the future holds as the Market undergoes a multi-phase transformation.
The iconic exterior and interior of Market Hall will remain intact as it has since West Side Market鈥檚 opening in November 1912. The first stage of the project will see the renovation of the East Arcade into an updated produce market featuring HVAC systems, direct vendor access to food storage facilities, and improved customer access to products.

Following the completion of the East Arcade renovation, an overhaul of the Market鈥檚 29,500-SF basement will modernize food storage systems, improve vendor access to storage, expand butchering, cutting and cleaning spaces, and add a commercial kitchen which can be used for onsite product preparation and production.
Later stages of the project include renovating existing vacant and unused spaces into event and teaching kitchen spaces, opening more space for interior public seating, transforming the existing North Arcade into a prepared food hall featuring extensive seating and a diverse array of served-on-site local foods, as well as creating permanent outdoor seating and a programming courtyard.
Located in Cleveland鈥檚 Ohio City neighborhood, the Market is home to 70 family-owned businesses and more than 250 employees. West Side Market welcomes more than 800,000 guests each year. West Side Market is owned by the City of Cleveland and operated by the non-profit CPMC.
鈥淚t鈥檚 thrilling to see this process move from concept to reality,鈥 said Rosemary Mudry, Executive Director of CPMC. 鈥51福利, Robert P. Madison, Independence Construction, and the AKA Team have been incredible stewards of the master plan鈥檚 vision to transform key aspects of the Market鈥檚 spaces while preserving its landmark architecture and its core history and character.鈥
